We have an exciting full-time opportunity for a well-rounded and experienced early career to mid-level Coastal Scientist or Coastal Engineer to support our Honolulu office and Pacific operations.

What you will do:

Depending on experience, the Coastal Scientist or Coastal Engineer will lead or support a wide variety of projects including design and permitting for nature-based solution and ecosystem restoration efforts, climate adaptation/resiliency relating to natural resources, sediment management, wetland assessments, and/or dune/beach management plans. Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Deployment of instrumentation.
  • Collection of field measurements.
  • Oversight of subcontractors.
  • Preparation of technical documents and reports.
  • Interfacing with a variety of regulatory agencies and other project stakeholders during all phases of project work.

What you will need:

  • Bachelor of Science in coastal or ocean science/engineering civil, environmental, biological, or other related degree. Masters or PhD degree preferred.
  • For engineers, E.I.T. is preferred; Hawaii PE or the ability to obtain PE in Hawaii is desired.
  • Three to six years or more of experience in the following fields: coastal, ocean, civil, environmental, or water resources.
  • Task/Project management experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Federal, State, and local permitting requirements for tidal and nearshore projects.  
  • Experience working with native Hawaiian organizations is a plus.  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Able and comfortable to work in both the office and field, including flexibility to meet project travel requirements.
  • Familiarity with proposal development and grant writing.
