About the role: We are seeking an experienced occupational health and safety professional with demonstrated technical expertise in occupational health and safety applied to environmental and natural resources investigations (both terrestrial and on-water), field engineering, remedial construction, and infrastructure redevelopment projects. The successful candidate will engage with project and program managers and execution teams to identify potential hazards associated with projects; develop mitigation measures; support preparation of, and/or review/approve Health and Safety Plans (HASP) and Accident Prevention Plans (APP); conduct audits of project sites to assess compliance with safety procedures and plans; and recommending and supporting corrective actions or process improvements where necessary. With guidance from EA’s Director of Corporate Safety, the candidate will also support management, implementation, enforcement, and enhancement of EA’s Corporate Safety Program.

This is a full-time position that requires a mix of field and office work, with up to 50% travel. Regional office locations for these positions include Seattle, WA; Sacramento, CA; Dallas, TX; Lincoln or Omaha, NE; Syracuse, NY; Warwick, RI; or at our Corporate Headquarters in Hunt Valley, MD.

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, engineering, terrestrial and aquatic biology, science, or related discipline.
  • A minimum of 8-10 years of experience as an environmental health and safety professional working in support of environmental investigation, in support of marine services including dredged material investigations, ecological fieldwork including wetland surveys, aquatic and terrestrial ecological surveys.
  • Familiarity with the Marine Protection, Research, and Sanctuaries Act for open water placement of dredge materials.
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), and/or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) credentialed professionals preferred.
  • Current Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER), OSHA 8-hour HAZWOPER Site Supervisor, 30-hour OSHA Construction Safety training, and First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of safety requirements for physical, chemical, and biological hazards associated with:
    • Activities aboard vessels; along docks, piers, or seawalls; or in and around water bodies, including United States Coast Guard (USCG) boat and safety requirements.
    • Drilling and direct-push equipment including vibracoring and rotosonic drilling.
    • Rigging/hoisting safety, crane plans and critical lift plans.
    • Float plans.
    • Naval architecture analysis for load handling equipment.
    • Man overboard/abandon ship plans and training/drills.
    • Construction and demolition.
    • Experience with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), other Department of Defense (DoD) environmental investigation and remediation projects a plus.
    • Working knowledge of Federal and State occupational safety and health regulations including OSHA’s general industry, construction, and maritime standards.
    • Working knowledge of USACE Engineering Manual
