EA’s Water Natural Resources Group has an excellent opportunity for an entry level Natural Resources Scientist to join our team.  The successful candidate will provide support in both fieldwork and biological surveys, as well as writing and development of natural resources management documents, impact assessments, and technical and compliance documents. The role includes a mix of field and office time and involves conducting resource assessments and surveys, report-writing, agency coordination, and collaboration with others. Periods of substantial travel are a component of this position, and fieldwork and surveys may be conducted throughout the U.S.

The right candidate for our team is someone who is collaborative but can also work in a self-directed capacity. They should be inquisitive, adaptable, flexible, and willing to quickly learn new skills in support of diverse and multi-disciplinary projects. Our fast-paced work environment requires good teamwork, communication, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Completing field surveys, including wetlands assessments/delineations; rare, threatened, and endangered (RTE) species assessments; invasive species monitoring; submerged aquatic vegetation surveys; forest stand delineations; stream assessments; and ecological monitoring.
  • Developing study plans, field reports, technical memoranda, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents, environmental permitting, and environmental compliance documents.
  • Supporting a variety of clients in natural resource management, ecological restoration, mitigation, and compliance.

Requirements: 

  • A bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, botany, wildlife management, environmental studies, or a related field.
  • 0-2 years of work experience in natural resources management, biology, or a related environmental field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with taxonomic keys, plant identification, and plant ecology, or a strong desire and willingness to learn these skills.
  • Experience with GPS, GIS, topography survey techniques, and ecological monitoring or a willingness to learn these techniques.
  • Ability to work in sometimes difficult outdoor terrain and conditions with equipment.
