We have an exciting full-time opportunity for a Scientist III to support our growing Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) consulting practice in Seattle. This position will consist of technical and task management support for a broad range of EHS clients/projects including work for ports, railroads, USACE, Navy and other public and private clients covering environmental compliance program areas for stormwater, SPCC, waste, wastewater, EPCRA/Tier II, and air quality. 

The Scientist III will focus on project management and client development.  This will involve leading project efforts and mentoring junior staff on compliance tasks such as site inspections and sampling; working with facility personnel to complete corrective actions; development of permit applications and plans (SPCC, SWPPP, etc.); regulatory reporting (DMRs, NPDES, RCRA, EPCRA/Tier II, air quality, and others); regulatory compliance audits and assessments; environmental training; and support of environmental compliance program development including Standard Operating Procedures and guidance documents. 

General tasks outside of field work include meeting facilitation, regulatory applicability analyses, technical research tasks, and project reports. The position includes a combination of office-based task work, field activities, travel and may also include periodic client staff augmentation. The majority of travel is expected to be local to Western Washington and may include up to 25% travel with a high percentage of day trips to local sites.

Requirements:

  • B.S. degree in environmental science or related discipline; master’s degree preferred.
  • 8-10 years of professional experience. 
  • Candidate must be comfortable working in both an office and field or industrial environment. 
  • Experience with Federal and Washington environmental regulatory requirements.
  • Experience conducting environmental compliance inspections, sampling and/or audits.
  • Experience with compliance program development; including SOPs, training, guidance, etc.
  • Experience with Environmental Management System and the ISO 14001 standard. 
  • Solid communication (written and verbal) skills are required, including the ability to participate and/or lead client meetings, interface with clients in a field or industrial environment, and maintain appropriate level of communication with supervisor and project/program managers.
  • Candidate must be able to work as a team member across technical disciplines, and must be able to adhere to schedules, scopes, and budgets, as well as EA’s project management and quality standards. Flexibility, adaptability, and ability to learn quickly are critical.
